Victim Length of Exploitation

What does the data reflect?

Understanding the length of time that victims spend in a trafficking scheme can be incredibly insightful in shaping intervention for victims and care for survivors. To better understand how long victims are exploited by their traffickers in federal human trafficking prosecutions, HTI began tracking the date of victims’ exploitation, from the beginning of the exploitation to the end. This data point can be accessed using the data subsites to explore the ranges of time in exploitation.

The Federal Human Trafficking Report’s findings are not a prevalence estimate of trafficking in the United States, but instead, serve as an objective summary of how the federal system holds traffickers accountable for their exploitative conduct. The Report does not capture data from state prosecutions, state civil suits, or human trafficking cases that are not prosecuted.
